Cambridge Final Exams – General Information

Cambridge Final Exams are a key element of the Bilingual Program. Cambridge language exams are an internationally-recognized measurement tool that can be used to compare the knowledge of our students against an external benchmark and can therefore provide feedback to students, teachers and parents regarding students’ progress, their needs in terms of their English language development, and also our program’s overall performance. Each exam, year by year, is also a stepping stone toward higher achievement for each of our students and is a key element in helping them prepare for the Cambridge First (FCE) For Schools B2 level exam at the end of Grade 8 in primary school and even higher levels in our high school program.

Preparation for Cambridge Finals is fully integrated into our program as a whole, in both English lessons and co-taught subjects. That said, we also devote one English lesson per week to more focused exam preparation to ensure the students have the support they need year-round. Just as important, the preparation material and the tests themselves are age-appropriate – specially designed with your child’s age group in mind.

Our Cambridge Final Exams are in full compliance with official exam standards and materials. As mentioned above, marks on the exam will allow students, teachers and parents to gain insight into each student’s level and language needs. Students will have a chance to look through their corrected tests. Of course, parents may also do so by appointment with their child’s main class English teacher, though the results will also be reported and interpreted in your child’s end of year report.

Finally, in upper primary school in Grades 5 through 8, under either the Cambridge +1 or Cambridge Plus System, students with passing Cambridge exam results will see their end of year English marks positively affected by their exam scores. Please see more information on how the Cambridge +1 and Cambridge Plus systems work via the other link in your email regarding Cambridge Final Exams.
