What is the mock exam?
The mock exam is a practice test. Every spring the Bilingual Program administers a Cambridge Final Exam as an external benchmarking tool. We use official test materials and run the exams under strict testing conditions. For Grade 10 for your child, the relevant exam is the Cambridge Advanced (CAE) at level C1.

For more information please see the following:

If my child has taken a Cambridge B2 exam in the last few months, does he/she still need to take the mock exam?

Yes. All 10th grade students are required to take the Mock Exam, which is a key milestone in the English language development of students in the Bilingual Program. The results of the mock exams provide us with critical data to measure the success of the Program at high school level. Moreover, our teachers are still working hard to raise the level of each student’s English, and the information from this mock exam will help them hone their work and do their best for their students throughout the rest of Grade 10 and also into Grade 11. Moreover, if you have NOT taken a Cambridge B2 exam in the last few months, the results of this mock exam can help students and their families decide whether to sign up for our next official exam with the British Council, and how best to proceed in earning the Cambridge B2 exam certificate which is required in order to continue with the Bilingual Program into Grade 11.

What else should I know about the speaking exam?

There are three important things to keep in mind regarding the speaking component:

  1. Students take the speaking component in pairs (or in case of an odd number, in one group of three). Pairs are formed prior to exam day by the Bilingual Program main English teacher.
  2. The speaking exam sessions may run later than scheduled, or may finish earlier.
  3. There will not be any further classes or sessions after the exam on February 25th.

What else should I know about the schedule for February 25th?

In order to have enough time to prepare for the start of the exam, students are expected to arrive at the school no later than 8:00 on the day of the exam. The exam begins at 8:15 sharp.

Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring three pencils and several sheets of lined paper. Please make sure to have water on hand, as it is not permissible to leave the room during the test.
