Janet Streeter

External Trainer & Consultant

Janet has worked in many different educational settings over the past 30 years.

She gained a first-class honours degree in German and French at Coventry University and taught English in Germany before training as a foreign language & ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in London. In 2002 she gained an Mphil research degree in Modern European History. She has taught in schools, colleges and universities and has also designed and delivered language training for industry. Janet became involved in initial and in-service teacher training in 1998 when she joined St Martin’s College, later to become part of the University of Cumbria. She has coordinated and taken part in several EU language & CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) projects, producing training materials for Primary & Secondary teachers. Janet currently delivers in-house training for CLIL teachers throughout Europe and runs residential CLIL courses in Carlisle and the Lake District.

Originally from Kent, near London, I now live in the far north of the UK not far from the Lake District with my husband and a large German Shepherd dog called Boris. Cumbria is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a great historical heritage too, including the famous Hadrian’s Wall. Teachers love going to Cumbria for training, but I also love coming to Budapest to deliver training and visit your lessons. My mission is quite simple – to work with teachers to make learning motivating, purposeful, challenging and fun so that everyone achieves their full potential. As a linguist, who has an international job and also likes to travel around different countries on a bicycle, I have learnt to appreciate the need for inter-cultural and linguistic competence when it comes to fostering global citizenship. So I find the idea of pupils learning subjects through another language throughout their school life incredibly exciting and worthwhile.
