If you’re looking for an enriching and life-changing experience, I would hands down recommend Budapest and the Bilingual Program!

I first came to Hungary in 2017 to teach and immediately fell in love with Hungary and teaching. After living here for 2 years, I moved to Madrid, Spain, where I earned my Master’s in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. While I enjoyed my program and my experience living in Spain, I knew I had to come back to Hungary when I felt homesick for my Budapest home, not for the US.

Living in Hungary has not always been easy, but working with Bilingual has made it feel safe and comfortable. They helped with everything from visas to travel documents, finding a flat, setting up my bank account, getting a phone, and so much more. I feel supported not only in the classroom, but in all aspects of my life here in Budapest.

What really makes Bilingual special is what happens in the classroom. The bilingual environment and structure to every lesson is unique and it really works! The students in Hungary have a much stronger command of English than other bilingual students that I have worked with in other countries. It amazes me how quickly these students catch on to new topics and how curious they are about learning.

I also feel very involved in my students’ education and development, both academically and personally. This is something I was looking for when I came to the Bilingual Program. I didn’t want to simply be the “Native Teacher” - I wanted to be a part of the class. I have come to truly love my students and have felt so welcomed by my co-teachers, students, and their families. Along with more involvement also comes more work and responsibilities, but it is so much more rewarding in the end.

I often get asked why I came back to Budapest - and while there are numerous reasons why I love this city, the biggest reason is because of the people. I have met so many amazing people who have become like family to me and Hungary has truly become my home. If you’re looking for an enriching and life-changing experience, I would hands down recommend Budapest and the Bilingual Program!
