“Now from experience, I can truly say that this style of teaching works and produces amazing results.”

I joined Bilingual during the pandemic in July 2020 after teaching English in Thailand. I really didn’t know what to expect moving to Hungary in unprecedented times. Throughout my moving and immigration process, I had always felt supported and assisted by the company, which made the transition easy and comfortable. I’ve now been teaching at Bilingual in Budapest for over a year and a half and still feel the same support from HR. Of course, no system is perfect, but it is reassuring to know that there are supervisors and coordinators looking out for you.

What drew me to teach for the Bilingual Program was their style of teaching. Being from the USA, I was not very familiar with a bilingual style classroom, where one teacher is teaching in the native tongue, and another is teaching in a foreign language. It seemed like such an effective way of acquiring a new language. Now from experience, I can truly say that this style of teaching works and produces amazing results. My students surprise me every day with the vocabulary they’ve gained and the accuracy of their pronunciation.

I was a bit wary of the idea of teaching with a Hungarian co-teacher for almost every subject. The concept was foreign to me, and I had never seen it done before. I’ll be honest, it did take some time to get used to going back and forth with a teacher who does not speak English. There were times where I felt frustrated and confused, but now that I’ve gotten used to it, I think it’s very natural and enjoyable. It has also let me learn different teaching styles and taught me to adapt to a different environment.

My biggest concern before moving to Budapest was not having a community of people around me. One of the most beneficial aspects Bilingual provides is the orientation for new teachers which takes place in the summer. It’s a time where new teachers can meet their English-speaking colleagues and supervisors/coordinators in a relaxed and informal environment. This is also when you receive extensive training, so you feel confident and prepared for the school year ahead.

Overall, I’ve had such a positive experience with this company, the school I’m teaching at, and the city of Budapest. If you are looking for an experience in a beautiful European city that allows you to teach English in a bilingual setting, then you should consider applying to Bilingual!
